10 Tips for Planning your Non-Traditional Wedding
My personal favourite, non-traditional / quirky weddings. Breaking away from conventional norms lets you create a day that truly reflects your personality and style. I have been to a few alternative weddings as an entertainer so I have thought I would provide a little insight and some things to keep in mind to help you plan a day that defies expectations and leaves a lasting impression.
Define Your Vision:
Before diving into the details, take time to define your vision for the day. What themes, colours, or styles resonate with you as a couple? Perhaps it's a vintage or carnival theme, a rustic forest gathering, or a sci-fi-inspired celebration. I suspect you already have a few ideas though…
Alt Venue:
Break away from traditional banquet halls and explore unconventional venues. Consider botanical gardens, art galleries, beachfronts, or your favourite local brewery. The venue sets the tone for the entire event, so choose a space that aligns with your vision.
Creative Invitations:
Your invitations are the first glimpse into your wedding style, and the first opportunity to let people know you're going to be a but different. Get creative with the design and wording to convey the unique nature of your celebration. Think outside the box—some people have even had a puzzle invitation or a message in a bottle.
Alt Attire:
Non-traditional weddings often call for non-traditional attire. Experiment with colours, patterns, or even themed costumes that reflect your personality. You might opt for a vintage dress, a colourful suit, or attire inspired by your favourite era.
Interactive Elements:
The fun stuff! Engage your guests with interactive elements. Consider a DIY cocktail bar, a collaborative art project, or a photo booth with quirky props. These activities not only entertain but also create lasting memories.
Personalised Ceremony:
Tailor your ceremony to reflect your unique journey. Write your vows, involve close friends or family in the officiating, or incorporate cultural traditions that hold significance for you.
Unconventional Decor:
Ditch the standard floral arrangements and embrace unconventional decor. Think about incorporating elements that resonate with your theme—whether it's vintage books, succulents, or fairy lights.
Non-traditional Food and Drinks:
Surprise your guests with a menu that deviates from the typical wedding fayre. Consider food trucks, a themed buffet, or even a selection of your favourite comfort foods. For drinks, experiment with signature cocktails or a craft beer bar.
Alt Entertainment:
Break away from the traditional wedding playlist and opt for live music, a DJ with a unique style, or even a surprise performance. Create an atmosphere that resonates with your tastes and keeps your guests entertained.
Capture the Moments:
Hire a photographer and/or videographer who understands and appreciates your nontraditional vision. Ensure they can capture the candid, unexpected moments that make your day truly special.
Planning a nontraditional wedding opens the door to endless possibilities. Embrace the opportunity to design an event that authentically represents your love story. From unique venues to unconventional decor, every choice you make contributes to crafting an unforgettable celebration that reflects the essence of you as a couple. Cheers to breaking the mould and creating a wedding day that is as extraordinary as your love.
